Areas of Expertise and Activities
Immigrant Integration and Multiculturalism
Host societies can be greatly enriched by their immigrant populations. CIMI draws upon extensive Israeli expertise to help other countries benefit from well-integrated immigrant communities. Specific areas of focus include initial reception; language acquisition; housing; employment and entrepreneurship; youth and education; social and cultural integration; community development and leadership.
Diaspora-Homeland Partnerships for Development
Israel and its diaspora have developed many mechanisms to create and strengthen ties for their mutual benefit. This initiative draws upon the extensive experience of the Israel-diaspora partnership and other transnational migrant-hometown joint efforts. CIMI provides expertise to goverment organizations, NGO's and IO's on how to maximize the development impact of migration in general and of diaspora homeland partnerships, specifically.
Forced and Temporary Migration
In recent years Israel is facing increasing migration management challenges similar to other states in terms of dealing with large numbers of refugees, asylum seekers and labor migrants, in addition to human smuggling and trafficking. CIMI, in partnership with IOM, UNHCR, and other international experts, seeks to enhance migration management capacity of relevant government authorities as well as civil society. In doing so, it seeks to improve services for migrants in accordance with international standards.
In addition, CIMI offers an immigration media summary that is published bi-weekly and available on-site:
